House votes to condemn socialism "in all its forms"
The House on September 1, 2026 agreed to a resolution condemning and denouncing socialism "in all its forms."
The resolution, H. Res. 1490, states that the House condemns socialism, including the Democratic Socialists of America, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States. It also reaffirms support for what it calls free, fair, and secure elections, states that American elections are for American citizens only, and calls for enactment of the SAVE America Act, an election-security measure.
On the question of agreeing to the resolution, members voted 220 to 192, with two voting present and 18 not voting. The resolution passed.
As a simple House resolution, the measure expresses the position of the House. It does not have the force of law and is not sent to the Senate or the President.
