House clears stopgap government funding package, 370–48
The House on September 1, 2026 agreed to the Senate's amendments to H.R. 6500, a bill that began as the AGOA Extension Act but which the Senate rewrote into a broader stopgap funding and extensions package.
As returned by the Senate, the measure is titled the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027. It packages together a continuing appropriations act for fiscal year 2027, a set of authorizing extensions, a surface transportation extension, and a set of Department of Veterans Affairs extenders.
The House took up the measure under a motion to suspend the rules and concur in the Senate amendments — a fast-track procedure that requires the support of two-thirds of those voting. Members voted 370 to 48, with 14 not voting, clearing that threshold.
The Senate had already passed the bill, so the vote sent it to the President.
