Ms. Wilson of Florida introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Education and Workforce
To amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to ensure that students with an individualized education program receive a certificate of completion upon completion of secondary school education.
Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Certificate of Merit for Persons with Abilities and Special Support Needs Act
or the COMPASS Act
.
Sec. 2. Individualized education programs
Section 614(d)(1)(A)(i)(VIII) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1414(d)(1)(A)(i)(VIII)) is amended—
(1)
by striking and
at the end of item (bb);
(2)
by redesignating item (cc) as item (dd); and
(3)
by inserting after item (bb), the following:
(cc)
the projected date for the child’s completion of the child’s secondary education program, and a statement that the child will receive a certification of completion on such date, without regard to whether the child is eligible to receive a regular secondary school diploma; and
