Mr. Tony Gonzales of Texas introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary
To amend title 18, United States Code, to prevent the use of explosive materials to assault, resist, or impede certain officers or employees.
Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Curbing Offenses on Policing Services Act
or the COPS Act
.
Sec. 2. Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees
Section 111 of title 18, United States Code, is amended—
(1)
in subsection (a)—
(A)
by striking under this title
and inserting up to $200,000
;
(B)
by striking one year
and inserting two years
; and
(C)
by striking 8 years
and inserting 10 years
; and
(2)
in subsection (b)—
(A)
by inserting after including
the following: explosive materials, as defined in section 841, or
;
(B)
by striking shall be fined under this title
and inserting shall be fined up to $500,000, notwithstanding section 3571,
; and
(C)
by striking 20 years
and inserting 25 years
