Ms. Mace introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on the Judiciary, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned
To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to increase the penalties related to intentional disclosure of nonconsensual intimate visual depictions, and for other purposes.
Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Responding to Exploitation and Sharing of Private Explicit Content and Threats Act
or the RESPECT Act
.
Sec. 2. Increased penalties related to intentional disclosure of nonconsensual intimate visual depictions
Section 223(h) of the Communications Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 223(h)) is amended—
(1)
in paragraph (4)—
(A)
in subparagraph (A), by striking 2 years
and inserting 5 years
; and
(B)
in subparagraph (B), by striking 3 years
and inserting 10 years
; and
(2)
in paragraph (6)(B)—
(A)
in clause (i), by striking 18 months
and inserting 3 years
; and
(B)
in clause (ii), by striking 30 months
and inserting 5 years
